One Thing: Leading with Purpose in the 4 Key Areas of Life

STRONG & GODLY MEN: EVENT 2
Define ONE Step for LEADERSHIP in 4 areas

homework Overview: 3-Month Leadership Plan

KEY IDEA: Pick one thing in each of the 4 key areas of Leadership… and do them on purpose.

For the next 90 days, you’re challenged to identify ONE specific action in each of these four leadership areas:

  1. Lead Yourself

  2. Lead Your Family

  3. Lead in the Body of Christ

  4. Lead in Your Community

“Quarterly. One intentional decision. One action step. In each of the four leadership areas.”

This is not about performance—it’s about purpose. This is how you build a life that Jesus can reward.

I. Vision Reminder & Ministry Update

Clint opened with updates to the Strong & Godly Men initiative, including development of the website, blog, videos, and course. The focus remains on equipping men to build with eternal purpose and lead in every arena of life. The ministry is expanding in vision, while staying simple and clear in structure.

Key Quotes:

“The website’s got the basic vision… notes from each event, videos, blogs.”
“This is a church thing at the moment, but I just kinda see it broadening.”
“I would really encourage you to invite your friends and family… maybe people that aren’t interested in church.”

II. Our Core Identity: Men Are Built to Lead and Build

Men are divinely designed to lead and to build with kingdom purpose. This means taking responsibility for our inner life, family life, faith life, and impact on the world. We build not just for today, but with eternity in mind.

Key Quotes:

“Men are built to build… with kingdom purpose, with eternity in mind.”
“We’re to lead in four areas: ourselves, our families, the church, and our community.”
“Live a life that Jesus can reward.”

Clint emphasized the importance of taking ownership of leadership in a world where many men have taken a backseat:

“Men have taken a back seat in church. Men have taken a back seat in our communities… I want to start to see us step into areas… where leadership is a facet.”

III. Christ Our Foundation & Brother

Jesus, Our Elder Brother

Let me share something that’s been stirring in my heart—something that shifts how we relate to Jesus. Yes, He’s our Lord. He’s the preeminent One, the Prince of Peace, the Savior, God Almighty. But He’s also something incredibly personal… He’s our brother.

Scripture calls Him the firstborn among many brethren and a friend who sticks closer than a brother. That means we don’t just serve Him—we walk with Him. He’s not far off, shouting commands from a throne. He’s right here with us. He became like us. He experienced our weakness. And now, He’s fighting beside us.

Picture a battlefield. You’re in the trenches, and you look to your right—and there He is. Not behind you. Beside you. Shoulder-to-shoulder. Fighting with you. That’s your brother.

This doesn’t take away from His lordship—it deepens your connection to Him. You can honor His authority while also drawing strength from His nearness.

He’s not judging you or waiting for you to fail. He knows what it’s like to be you. And He’s calling you up—calling you into manhood, into leadership, into purpose. He’s strengthening you as you walk it out.

So when you think about your life—your leadership, your mission—don’t do it alone. Do it with your brother Jesus at your side.

Key Quotes:

“He’s our Lord and our God… but He became like us.”
“He knows what it’s like to be you. He’s calling us up into our manhood.”
“He’s like that four-star General who ends up in the trenches with you.”

This view of Jesus redefines our strength:

“Jesus isn’t judging you… He’s strengthening you. He’s working with you.”

IV. The Eternal Standard: 1 Corinthians 3:9–15

Clint unpacked the passage about the Judgment Seat of Christ where every believer’s works will be tested by fire. What remains will be rewarded. The standard is not scale or visibility but quality—things built on the foundation of Jesus with pure motives.

Key Quotes:

“You are God’s fellow workers. God’s building. God’s field.”
“Be careful how you build. The fire will test the quality of each man’s work.”
“If it survives, he will receive a reward. If not, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved.”

Clint clarified:

“It’s not about the size of your ministry or the dollars in the bank—it’s about the quality.”
“The secret decision you make today might be rewarded openly by Jesus for eternity.”

He challenged the men:

“Ask yourself—what are you building? And how are you building it?”

V. Discussion: What Qualifies as Gold, Silver, and Precious Stones?

Men shared personal stories of things they’ve built with eternal value—marriage restoration, discipleship, generosity, and showing up for others in love. These illustrate what endures the fire.

Examples Shared:

  • Marriage Restoration:

“We were on the rocks… now my wife kisses me every night again.”
“I just started reading the Word… Jesus did it.”

  • Parenting:

“When my kids follow Christ on their own… that’s precious.”

  • Generosity:

“I sent my business partner $65 and prayed over him. He didn’t even use it to eat, but he knew someone cared.”

  • Witness in Community:

“I thank policemen every time I see them now. That’s kingdom impact.”

  • Personal Ministry:

“I spent an hour giving words of encouragement to strangers today. That’s what I’m building.”

Clint emphasized:

“Jesus rewards the things that are rooted in love.”
“It’s not performance—it’s the motives of the heart.”

VI. Key Pillars for Eternal Work

To build what lasts, we need a strong inner life. Gratitude and sensitivity to the Spirit were emphasized as essential traits of men building with kingdom purpose.

Key Pillars:

  • Gratitude

“Gratitude leads to growth. Without it, you get bitter.”

  • Sensitivity to the Spirit

“Let’s build our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit to be used by Him every day.”

  • Authenticity

“Don’t just go through the motions. The Lord sees the heart.”

VII. The Four Areas of Leadership

Clint introduced a simple yet powerful model: every quarter, choose ONE intentional step in each of the four areas of leadership and make a plan to implement it.

🧠 1. Lead Yourself Well

  • Examples:

    • Improve your physical fitness

    • Start a Bible reading plan

    • Tackle one task you’ve been avoiding

“Even if you just build a shelf in your garage, you’re building momentum.”
“Get the Word in you. Let it read you.”

❤️ 2. Lead Your Family

  • Examples:

    • Read Scripture with your kids

    • Take your wife on a date

    • Express love verbally

“Say what you’re thinking when she looks beautiful. It literally changes her brain chemistry.”
“I’m committed to your success—not codependency, but legacy.”

🕊️ 3. Lead in the Body of Christ

  • Examples:

    • Serve in your church

    • Encourage the worship team

    • Facilitate a study group

“Don’t wait to be asked. Step into your role.”

🌎 4. Lead in the Community

  • Examples:

    • Feed the homeless

    • Volunteer at school events

    • Support kids with no fathers

“Young men are searching for something to build their life on… let them see you.”

VIII. Homework: One Step in Each Area

Clint gave a clear assignment—pick one decision in each area and take a step in the next 90 days. Don’t overcomplicate it. Small steps lead to big fruit over time.

Assignment:

“Quarterly. One intentional decision. One action step. In each of the four leadership areas.”

  • Plan it.

  • Do it.

  • Share it.

  • Adjust next quarter.

IX. Final Challenge & Questions

Clint closed by revisiting the core challenge:
How will you lead?
What kingdom purpose will you build?

Key Quotes:

“Let every decision pass through the fire of discernment before it faces the fire of judgment.”
“Live with a mindset that what you build today could echo in eternity.”

He affirmed identity:

“Even if you never do another thing, Jesus is pleased with you. But man, don’t you wanna be rewarded?”

X. Closing Prayer

Led by Hans:

“Lord, guide us to lead ourselves, our families, our church, and our communities. Thank you for calling us as men to build what lasts. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
